Reaction conditions of aluminum pot

Release time: 2023-07-10

Aluminum pots will turn black during use
Usually, water appears clean on the surface, but in fact, it has dissolved a lot of things, the most common being calcium and magnesium salts, followed by iron salts. Different sources of water contain varying amounts of iron salts, which are the "culprits" that cause aluminum pots to turn black.
Due to the fact that aluminum is more active than iron, when the aluminum pot encounters water containing iron salts, aluminum replaces iron. The replaced iron adheres to the aluminum pot, and the aluminum pot turns black.
However, in order for this chemical "trick" to succeed, there must be three conditions:
1、 The water contains a lot of iron salts.
2、 Boiling water takes longer.
3、 The aluminum pot must be new, because the surface of the old aluminum pot has a thin layer of aluminum oxide, which prevents the aluminum inside from being exposed. Of course, the "trick" cannot be achieved.
Since the black substance is iron, it is not necessary to remove black. If you want the aluminum pot to regain its brightness, you can use vinegar to remove these black colors; Boiling acidic foods such as tomatoes several times can also dissolve iron.
You can also put fresh apple peels into a pot, add an appropriate amount of water, boil for 1 quarter of an hour, and then rinse with water. The aluminum pot will become shiny and new.
